Buhrman’s Goal Clinches Win at Otterbein
Westerville, Ohio – October 17, 2009 – The Heidelberg University men’s soccer team was victorious over Otterbein College with the score of 1-0. The win marked Heidelberg’s sixth shutout of the season. The Berg improves to 8-4-2 overall, 3-1-1 in the OAC, while the Cardinals drop to 4-7-3, 2-3 in the OAC.
In the first half, Heidelberg held an 8-3 shot advantage, but neither team was able to get on the board as the game went into the halftime knotted at 0-0.
Heidelberg answered when Cory Buhrman (Brunswick, Ohio / Brunswick) placed the ball in the back of the net in the 58th minute for the 1-0 lead and the eventual game-winning goal. The score marked Buhrman’s team-leading fifth goal of the season.
Buhrman led the Berg with four shots and three shots on goal. Backing Buhrman was Gavin McCarthy (Hilliard, Ohio / Hilliard Darby) who recorded two shots and two shots on goal. Joel Oldham (Roanoke, Texas / Keller) earned a shot on goal.
Heidelberg’s goal keeper Ryan Smith (Roanoke, Texas / Keller) accumulated three saves on the night.
Heidelberg returns to action when they host Ohio Northern University, Tuesday October 20, at 7:00 p.m.
