Tiffin, Ohio – April 17, 2010 – The Heidelberg University men’s tennis team traveled today to take on Ohio Athletic Conference opponents Marietta College. The Berg was able to bring back a, 7-2, win.
The Berg improves their record to 5-8 overall and 3-2 in the OAC, while the Pioneers fall to 5-5 and 1-4.
The Berg swept all of the doubles action and won four of the six singles matches.
Bobby Lochotzki (Oak Harbor, Ohio / Oak Harbor) and Cliff Goetz (Oak Harbor, Ohio / Oak Harbor) teamed up at first doubles to take an 8-2 win over their opponents. Miles Yetter (Dublin, Ohio / Dublin Jerome) and Ryan Earl (Madison, Ohio / Madison) picked up a, 8-4, win at second doubles. Rounding out the doubles wins were Bradley Cerveny (North Royalton, Ohio / North Royalton) and Tim Hanes (Struthers, Ohio / Struthers) (8-2), earning Hanes his first career win.
At the number one singles spot Lochotzki shutout his opponent in straight sets (6-0, 6-0). Goetz and Cerveny also picked up wins at second and third singles respectively coming away with identical scores (6-1, 6-2).
Yetter pushed his match at fifth singles against opponent, Andrew Bolton, into a third set tiebreaker pulling away with his fourth consecutive singles win (6-1, 3-6, 1-0 (10-1)).
Heidelberg takes to the road Wednesday, April 21, to face OAC opponents Baldwin-Wallace at 3:30 p.m.
