Berea, Ohio – February 26, 2011 - The Heidelberg University track and field teams, under the guidance of first-year head coach Briana Shook, participated in the 2011 OAC Championships over the weekend. The event was hosted by Baldwin-Wallace College on the Harrison Dillard Track inside the Lou Higgins Recreation Center.
The women finished seventh place with a total of 56 points, while the men finished ninth with 42 points.
Highlighting for the Berg on the women's side was sophomore Marian Bevington (Celina, Ohio / Parkway), who earned All-OAC honors in three different events. She won the long jump with a leap of 17’11.75” and finished second in the 55 meter hurdles with a time of 8.60 and in triple jump with a leap of 34’2.”. Bevington also earned sixth-place in high jump with a mark of 5’1”.
Earning All-OAC honors in three different events for the men was junior Joe Yoder (West Salem, Ohio / West Salem Liberty). He placed second in high jump with a leap of 6’5” and second in the 500 meter run with crossing the finish line at 1:06.79. Yoder also clocked in at 8.10 in the 55 meter hurdles, good enough for fifth-place.
Joining Yoder with conference honors was senior Seth Robertson (Burton, Ohio / Newbury) who earned third-place in the 400 meter dash with a time of 50.17. Robertson was also part of the 4x400 meter relay team that earned All-OAC honors with a third place finish in a time of 3:26.45. Completing the team were freshman Jamil Boldian (Chicago, Ill. / Urban Youth), Yoder, and senior Terrance Horton (Pickerington, Ohio / Pickerington).
Also contributing points for the women was senior Alexis Goodman (Tiffin, Ohio / Columbian) who finished fifth-place in the 55 meter dash at 7.51 and seventh in the 200-meter dash with crossing the finish line at 26.96. Goodman was also part of the 4x200 team that earned a fifth-place finish with a time of 1:51.50. Completing the quartet were junior Lillian Hansberger (Norwalk, Ohio / Western Reserve), freshman Samantha Filliater (Fostoria, Ohio / Lakota), and sophomore Cori Nalbach (Massillon, Ohio / Fairless).
Junior Kristin Burns (Milford Center, Ohio/ Fairbanks) took fifth in the 400 meter dash, clocking in at 1:02.71, while classmate Aaliyah VanLeer (Cleveland Heights, Ohio / Cleveland Heights) earned fourth in shot put with a throw of 38’11”.
Rounding out top-five finishes for the men were the 4x200 relay team consisting of Boldian, sophomores Larry Massey (Royal Oak, Mich. / Wylie E. Groves), Gibril Kamara (Westerville, Ohio / Central), and Justin Burnett (Springfield, Ohio / Northwestern).
