'Berg Wins in Spring Opener
The Heidelberg University men’s tennis team traveled today for their season opener against Bluffton University and left with a 7-2. The win gives the Berg a 1-1 record and dropped Bluffton to 0-4.
All of the Berg’s singles players came back with a win for the night. In the first singles spot Moody Al-Turk (Sandusky, Ohio / Perkins) won 7-5, 4-6, 6-0 against Sean Williams. Winning in three sets of play were Bradley Cerveney (North Royalton, Ohio / North Royalton) 6-7(5-7), 7-6 (7-2), 6-1 and Lee Moomaw (Bloomville, Ohio / Columbian) 6-2, 6-7(5-7), 6-4. Finishing out the singles matches were Patrick-Ryan Earl (Madison, Ohio / Madison) 7-5, 6-3, Dylan Booth (Westerville, Ohio / Westerville Central) 6-4, 6-1 and Miles Yetter (Dublin, Ohio / Dublin Jerome) 6-2, 6-2.
Winning in doubles play was Booth and Moomaw, 8-3, over Kendall Church and Nate Stroud in the third spot. Al-Turk and Cerveny fell 8-6 in the one position to Jon Stout and David Juarez. At second doubles were Earl and Yetter who lost to Williams and John Mark Stratford 8-3.
The Berg will travel to Marietta, Ohio on Saturday, March 21 to take on the Pioneers with play beginning at 10 a.m.
