Higginbotham Named OAC Field Athlete Of The Week
Freshman Julius Higginbotham (Elyria, Ohio / Elyria) of the Heidelberg College men’s track and field team has been named the Ohio Athletic Conference Men’s Field Athlete of the Week for the week of April 30, 2007. It is the third OAC weekly award that Higginbotham has garnered this season. He was named the Indoor Field Athlete of the Week Jan. 29 and the Indoor Runner of the Week February 26. It is also the second-straight week that Heidelberg has claimed this award. Higginbotham follows junior long jumper Greg Tyson, Jr. (Lima, Ohio / Lima Senior).
At the Gina Relays April 27-28, Higginbotham leaped to a seventh place finish in the long jump with a jump of 23’7.75”. Higginbotham also provisionally qualified for the NCAA Division III National Championships with his leap.
On the track, Higginbotham teamed with Steven Malone (Shaker Heights, Ohio / Shaker Heights), Justin Shields (Lorain, Ohio / Amherst L. Steele) and Paris Hilliard (Lorain, Ohio /Admiral King) to set a new school record in the 4x100-meter relay at 42.30, which also earned them a fourth place finish.
