Lucas Provisionally Qualifies Another Set Of Runners For Nationals
Third year head coach Kevin Lucas of the Heidelberg College men’s and women’s track and field teams provisionally qualified another set of runners for the NCAA Division III National Championships at the Billy Hayes Invitational hosted by the University of Indiana May 4, 2007. Provisionally qualifying was the 4x400-meter relay team of Cory Beebe (Medina, Ohio / Cloverleaf), Greg Tyson, Jr. (Lima, Ohio / Lima Senior), Julius Salgado (Fremont, Ohio / Fremont Ross) and Justin Shields (Lorain, Ohio / Amherst L. Steele). The group crossed the finish line in a provisionally qualifying time and new school record time of 3:13.65.
Also performing well at the invite was Nikki Jones (Fremont, Ohio / Hopewell-Loudon) of the women’s team. Jones bettered her own school record in the 800-meter run. She crossed the finish line in 2:17.50.
Another school record that was improved upon was the men’s 4x100-meter relay team of Julius Higginbotham (Elyria, Oho / Elyria), Justin Shields (Lorain, Oho / Amherst L. Steele), Paris Hilliard (Lorain, Ohio / Admiral L. King) and Steven Malone (Shaker Heights, Ohio / Shaker Heights). The group ran in a new school record time of 42.22.
