Tyson, Jr. Tabbed OAC Field Athlete Of The Week
Heidelberg College junior Greg Tyson, Jr. (Lima, Ohio / Lima Senior) of the men’s track and field team has been tabbed the Ohio Athletic Conference Men’s Field Athlete of the Week for the week of May 7, 2007. It is the second athlete of the week honor for Tyson, Jr. on the 2007 outdoor season.
Last Friday, Tyson, Jr. improved on his national-qualifying leap in the long jump with a jump of 23’6”, which stood second in the final standings at the Billy Hayes Invitational. Also on Friday, he teamed with Cory Beebe (Medina, Ohio / Cloverleaf), Justin Shields (Lorain, Ohio / Amherst L. Steele) and Julius Salgado (Fremont, Ohio / Fremont Ross) to provisionally qualify for nationals in the 4x400-meter relay. The group ran in a time of 3:13.65, which stood fourth and also set a new Heidelberg record.
On Saturday, at the Butler Twilight, Tyson, Jr. took second in the long jump with a leap of 22’2.25”.
