Heidelberg Concludes National Preliminaries On The Track With Beebe And 4x400-Meter Relay Heading To The Finals

The Heidelberg College men’s track and field team overcame a strong cross wind as well as a steady rainfall to earn a chance at garnering All-American accolades at the NCAA Division III National Championships on Saturday, May 26. The championships are hosted by the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh in Oshkosh, Wisc.

Individually, Cory Beebe (Medina, Ohio / Cloverleaf) ran in a preliminary time of 52.50 in the 400-meter hurdles to qualify for the finals. It is the second-straight season that Beebe will race in the finals of the 400-meter hurdles at nationals. A season ago, Beebe stood sixth, earning All-American accolades. Beebe is slated to hit the track on Saturday beginning at 3:15 p.m.

Heidelberg’s 4x400-meter relay team of Beebe, Julius Salgado (Fremont, Ohio / Fremont Ross), Justin Shields (Lorain, Ohio / Amherst L. Steele) and Greg Tyson, Jr. (Lima, Ohio / Lima Senior) earned a spot in the 4x400-meter relay finals following its run of 3:16.93 in the preliminaries. The Berg will run in the finals at 4:45 p.m. on Saturday.

Also taking to the track was the men’s 4x100-meter relay team of freshmen Julius Higginbotham (Elyria, Ohio / Elyria), Paris Hilliard (Lorain, Ohio / Admiral King) and Justin Shields (Lorain, Ohio / Amherst L. Steele), along with senior Steven Malone (Shaker Heights, Ohio / Shaker Heights). The relay raced to a 41.97 just missing a spot in the finals.

Tyson, Jr. finished in a time of 21.93 in the 200-meter dash, but did not qualify for the finals.
