'Berg Takes Second at Don Frail Invite

Freshman hurdler Joe Yoder (West Liberty, Ohio / West Liberty Salem) paced the Heidelberg University men’s track and field team to a runner-up finish at the Don Frail Invitational hosted by Marietta College on Saturday. The invite was held at Don Drumm Stadium, the site of the 2009 NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships.
 
Overall the Berg scored 113 points to take second behind Division II Tiffin University. Tiffin won the team title with 133 points. Host Marietta was third (104) followed by Notre Dame College (67.5) and Grove City College (67).
 
Yoder topped the field in the 110-meter hurdles in a time of 15.17 and took the title in the 400-meter hurdles, crossing the finish line in 55.51. He also tried his arm at the javelin and took home a fourth place finish at 145’4”.
 
The 4x400-meter relay team of Seth Robertson (Burton, Ohio / Newbury), Mark Childs (New Albany, Ohio / New Albany), Terrence Horton (Pickerington, Ohio /Pickerington) and Wes Hendricks (Beavercreek, Ohio / Beavercreek) took home top honors with a time of 3:22.09.
 
Running to runner-up honors was Childs in the 800-meter run. Childs finished in 1:56.80. Also taking second was Jacob Lemon (Oak Harbor, Ohio / Oak Harbor) in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and Eric Holbrook (Circleville, Ohio / Logan Elm) in the 1,500-meter run. Lemon finished the steeplechase in 9:48.63, while Holbrook raced to a time of 4:11.14 in the 1,500-meter run.
 
Hendricks tried his luck at the open 400-meter dash and ran away with a third. He finished in 49.63. The 4x100-meter relay time was also third in a time of 42.96. Teaming up for the relay was Charles Stone (Springfield, Ohio / Springfield North), Paris Hilliard (Lorain, Ohio / Admiral King), Brett Meadows (Marysville, Ohio / Bellefontaine) and Hendricks.
 
Rounding out the top-five finishers for the sprinters was Horton in the 400-meter dash. Horton crossed the finish line in 49.85, good enough for fourth.
 
The distance core also placed David Jacobson (Chardon, Ohio / Chardon) fourth in the 1,500-meter run (4:16.01) and Jordan Karnes (Edgerton, Ohio /Edgerton) was fourth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (9:55.46).
 
Taking home fifth place honors in the distance events was Jarrod Saling (Caldwell, Ohio / Caldwell) in the 1,500-meter run (4:17.27), Aaron Stewart (Castalia, Ohio / Castalia) in the 5,000-meter run (16:35.41) and Jamie Kuess (Coldwater, Ohio / Coldwater) in the steeplechase (9:57.70).
 
In the field events, Frank Krill (Edgerton, Ohio / Edgerton) and Wayne Lanum (Marengo, Ohio / Highland) led the way. Krill leaped to a fifth in the long jump (20’5.25”), while Lanum tossed the shot put 47’8.5” to place fifth.
 
The Berg returns to action at the All-Ohio Championships April 11. Ohio Wesleyan University is the host institution for the championships.
