'Berg Takes Third at All-Ohio Championships

The Heidelberg University men’ s track and field team, under the guidance of first-year head coach Keith Roberts Jr., finished third at the 2009 All-Ohio Championships hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University in Delaware, Ohio.
 
Heidelberg tallied 89 points, to follow champion Ohio Wesleyan (108) and Ohio Northern University (100). Baldwin-Wallace College took fourth with 74 points and Mount Union College rounded out the top-five with 57 points.
 
Placing in three events to lead the way for the Berg was freshman and Ohio Athletic Conference Track Athlete of the Week Joe Yoder (West Liberty, Ohio / West Liberty-Salem). Yoder took home the championship in the 400-meter hurdles in a time of 53.44. His time is a provisional qualifying time for the 2009 NCAA Division III Championships and it currently stands fourth in the nation. Yoder also took fourth in the 110-meter high hurdles in a time of 15.06 and cleared 6’3.5” in the high jump to finish fourth as well.
 
Julius Higginbotham (Elyria, Ohio / Elyria) took home the championship in the long jump with a leap of 22’7”. He also was fifth in the 100-meter dash (10.97).
 
Also taking home an individual title was sophomore Wes Hendricks (Beavercreek, Ohio / Beavercreek) in the 400-meter dash. Hendricks crossed the finish line in 49.36. Backing Hendricks was Seth Robertson (Burton, Ohio / Newbury) (49.86) and Terrence Horton (Pickerington, Ohio / Pickerington) (50.09), taking home third and fifth, respectively.
 
Rounding out the Berg titles was the 4x400-meter relay team of Robertson, Mark Childs (New Albany, Ohio / New Albany), Horton and Hendricks. The group raced to a time of 3:19.76.
 
Childs also took home runner-up honors in the 800-meter run, finishing his two laps in 1:55.06.
 
Standing third in the shot put was freshman Wayne Lanum (Marengo, Ohio / Highland). Lanum tossed the shot put 49’3.75”.
 
Taking fourth was the 4x100-meter relay team of Brett Meadows (Marysville, Ohio / Bellefontaine), Paris Hilliard (Lorain, Ohio / Admiral King), Higginbotham and Hendricks in a time of 42.72.
 
Jake Lemon (Oak Harbor, Ohio / Oak Harbor) rounded out the top-five finishers for the Berg with a fifth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (9:47.86).
