Sprinters Pave the Way at Kenyon Invite

The Heidelberg University men’s and women’s track and field teams had solid outings by its sprinting cores at the Kenyon Invitational hosted by Kenyon College. Both teams finished third on the day at the 10-team invitational.
 
Highlighting the day was NCAA Division III provisional qualifying marks by Tomika Brown (Bellefontaine, Ohio / Bellefontaine) in the high jump and the women’s 4x100-meter relay team. Brown cleared 5’5.75” to take home the championship. She also was fifth in the 200-meter dash (27.39).
 
The 4x100-meter relay team of Shanice McLellan (Lima, Ohio / Lima Senior), Brown, Jazmine Shaw (Columbus, Ohio / Hamilton Township) and Judy Bataille (Felicity, Ohio / Felicity-Franklin) crossed the finish line in 48.53 to ink Heidelberg on the national provisional list. At the invite, the Berg stood second.
 
Shaw took home the title in the 200-meter dash in a time of 26.56. Backing Shaw was Angela Zellner (Twinsburg, Ohio / Twinsburg) in third (27.16).
 
McLellan also took home a title, claiming the top spot in the 100-meter hurdles. She crossed the finish line in 15.3. In the 400-meter hurdles she finished fourth (1:08.38), while Alison Marty (Amherst, Ohio / Amherst Steele) was fifth (1:09.16).
 
Taking third in the 100-meter dash was Alexis Goodman (Tiffin, Ohio / Columbian) in a time of 13.39 and Breeanca Madison (Columbus, Ohio / Africentric Secondary) was third in the triple jump (31’5.75”).
 
Rounding out top-five placers for the women was Jamie Depinet (New Riegel, Ohio / New Riegel) with a fourth in the 400-meter dash (1”00.46). Marty was fourth in the long jump (16’2.25”) and Zellner was fifth in the 400-meter dash (1:00.52).
 
On the men’s side, Paris Hilliard (Lorain, Ohio / Admiral King) led the way with two championships. He opened up with a first in the 100-meter dash in a time of 11.21. He doubled up for the 200 and took the top spot with a time of 22.67. He also teamed with Julius Higginbotham (Elyria, Ohio / Elyria), Brett Meadows (Marysville, Ohio / Bellefontaine) and Wes Hendricks (Beavercreek, Ohio / Beavercreek) to take home runner-up honors in the 4x100-meter relay (42.25).
 
Hendricks was first in the 400-meter dash in a time of 49.23, while Higginbotham made it four champions with a first in the long jump with a leap of 22’7”. Higginbotham also took third in the 100-meter dash (11.26) and fourth in the triple jump (42’4”).
 
Terrence Horton (Pickerington, Ohio / Pickerington) took second in the 400-meter dash (49.78) and Wayne Lanum (Marengo, Ohio / Highland) was second in the shot put (48’4.75”).
 
Taking third in the 800-meter run was Eric Holbrook (Circleville, Ohio / Logan Elm) with a time of 1:58.37, while John Gogle (Sunbury, Ohio / Big Walnut) took fourth in the 5,000-meter run (16:19.49).
