Heidelberg Takes Part in Gregory Invite

The Heidelberg University men’s and women’s track and field teams took part in the Gregory Invitational hosted by North Central College in Naperville, Ill. May 14-15.
 
The Berg had two provisional qualifying marks for the upcoming NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships hosted by Marietta College May 21-23. Leading the list of qualifiers was freshman Tomika Brown (Bellefontaine, Ohio / Bellefontaine). Brown topped the field in the high jump, clearing 5’5.75”. She took first by two inches and her jump is in a tie for 10th in the nation.
 
Also provisionally qualifying for nationals was the men’s 4x100-meter relay team. The group of Julius Higginbotham (Elyria, Ohio /Elyria), Paris Hilliard (Lorain, Ohio / Admiral King), Brett Meadows (Marysville, Ohio / Bellefontaine) and Joe Yoder (West Liberty, Ohio / West Liberty Salem) crossed the finish line in 41.71.
 
Higginbotham took third in the long jump, leaping 22’6.25”. Wayne Lanum (Margeno, Ohio / Highland) rounded out the top-10 finishers for the men with a 10th in the shot put. Lanum recorded a distance of 48’ 0.75”.
 
The women’s 4x100-meter relay team stood eighth with a time of 49.20. Teaming up for the Berg was Shanice McLellan (Lima, Ohio / Lima Senior), Brown, Jazmine Shaw (Columbus, Ohio / Hamilton Township) and Alexis Goodman (Tiffin, Ohio / Columbian).
