'Berg Finishes Strong at Ohio Northern Meet

Scott Lasch (Huron, Ohio / Huron) and Paige Reiman (Defiance, Ohio / Tinora) led the way when the Heidelberg College men’s and women’s indoor track and field teams competed in the Ohio Northern Friday Night Series. Lasch came in first in the mile run (4:28.49) and the 800-meter run (1:57.91), while Reiman finished fourth in the 55-meter hurdles (9.11).

Overall, the men had 13 runners finish in the top five of their events. Cory Beebe (Medina, Ohio / Cloverleaf) not only finished second in the 55-meter hurdles (7.79) and third in the 500-meter run (1:06.42),but joined fellow teammates Paris Hilliard (Lorain, Ohio / Admiral King), Justin Zuchowski (Brunswick, Ohio / Brunswick), and Wes Hendricks (Beavercreek, Ohio / Beavercreek)  in the 4x200-meter relay for  a second place finish (1:38.05). Beebe also teamed up with Lasch, Mark Childs (New Albany, Ohio / New Albany), and Terrence Horton (Pickerington, Ohio / Pickerington) for a third place win in the 4x400-meter relay (3:26.31).

Childs provided support in the 55-meter hurdles, placing fourth (1:07.53), while Eric Holbrook (Circleville, Ohio / Logan Elm) joined Lasch for the 800-meter run and finished fifth (2:02.47). Holbrook also united with Eric Hoogeveen (Westerville, Ohio / Westerville North), Reed Wolverton (Van Wert, Ohio / Van Wert), and John Distler (Mentor, Ohio / Mentor) for fourth place in the distance medley (10:39.32).

In the field events, Childs jumped his way to a second place spot in the high jump with a height of 1.86 meters, while Adam Bumb (Alvada, Ohio / New Riegel) showed off his skills in the triple jump by placing second with a distance of 11.89 meters. The Student Princes also saw a fourth place finish in the 300-meter dash when Hilliard recorded a time of 37.33.

For the women, three individual runners and two relay teams posted top five finishes. The runners included Reiman, Judy Bataille (Felicity, Ohio / Franklin) with a fifth place finish in the 55-meter dash (7.37), and Erica Tenwalde (Ada, Ohio / Lima Shawnee), who jogged her way to fourth in the mile run in a time of 5:35.55.

A third place finish went to the 4x200-meter relay team , which included Bataille, Angela Zellner (Twinsburg, Ohio / Twinsburg), Colleen Nitchman (Wakeman, Ohio / Western Reserve), and Jamie Depinet (New Riegel, Ohio / New Riegel). The ladies teamed up for a time of (1:51.09). Zellner, Nitchman, and Bataille soon after joined forces with Jocelyn Hughes (Oberlin, Ohio / Oberlin) for a fifth place win in the 4x400-meter relay (4:12.37).

Heidelberg competes next on January 25 and 26 at the Tom Wright Classic in Bowling Green, Ohio.
