Solid Weekend for Heidelberg at Mount Union Invite
A clean sweep of both the men and women’s 4x400-meter relays helped the Heidelberg College track team finish solid at the Mount Union Invite. The men placed third out of nine teams, while the women completed the day in fourth out of 11 teams.
Judy Bataille (Felicity, Ohio / Felicity-Franklin) had another record-breaking weekend for the Berg. She ran a 41.94 in the 300-meter dash, breaking the old school record of 42.89 set back in 1989, but just missed tying her own record in the 55-meter dash by .01 seconds. Her time at the event was 7.18, while her record is 7.17. Colleen Nitchman (Wakeman, Ohio / Western Reserve) followed close behind Bataille’s first place finishes in the two events. Nitchman placed second in the 55-meter dash in a time of 7.45 and third in the 300-meter dash in a time of 44.14.
Also showing well for the women were Jamie Depinet (New Riegel, Ohio / New Riegel) and Jocelyn Hughes (Oberlin, Ohio / Oberlin) in the 400-meter dash. Depinet came in third, finishing in 1:00.63, while Hughes finished fifth in a time of 1:03.89. Placing fifth also for the Berg was Caitlyn Bromley (Stow, Ohio / Stow Monroe) in the 1000-meter run, completing the race in a time of 3:23.51, while the 4x160-meter relay team combined for a time of 1:28.99 to place in the five spot as well.
For the men, Julius Higginbotham (Elyria, Ohio / Elyria) came in third in the 55-meter dash (6.64)and fifth in the long jump (21'8.0"), while in the 400-meter dash Wes Hendricks (Beavercreek, Ohio / Beavercreek) claimed a first place finish (50.68) followed by Mark Childs (New Albany, Ohio / New Albany) in second (50.70) and Justin Zuchowski (Brunswick, Ohio / Brunswick) in fifth (52.62). Childs also recorded a win in the 300-meter dash, finishing in a time of 36.18. John Distler (Mentor, Ohio / Mentor) beat out his competition for third place in the mile run (4:30.32), but ran a 2:45.36 in the 1000-meter run to place third behind teammate Nick Reinhart (Bascom, Ohio / Hopewell Loudon), who came in second in a time of 2:43.07.
Rounding things out for the men were Brandon Zuchowski (Brunswick, Ohio / Brunswick) earning fourth place in the 500-meter dash (1:11.39) and Eric Holbrook (Circleville, Ohio / Logan Elm) with a third place showing in the 800-meter run (2:03.82).
Heidelberg suits up next at the All-Ohio Championships on Saturday, February 16, in Westerville.
