Heidelberg Track Fairs Well at OAC West Meet
Colleen Nitchman (Wakeman, Ohio / Western Reserve) led the Heidelberg College women and Wes Hendricks (Beavercreek, Ohio / Beavercreek) the men by placing in the top three of two individual events at the Ohio Athletic Conference West Meet held at Wilmington College.
Nitchman came in second behind teammate Catie Evers (Burkettsville, Ohio / St. Henry) in the 400-meter dash and third behind teammate Judy Bataille (Felicity, Ohio / Felicity Franklin) in the 200-meter dash. Bataille won the event and set a new school record with her time of 25.49. Meanwhile, Hendricks came in third in the 200-meter dash behind second-place finishing teammate Paris Hilliard (Lorian, Ohio / Admiral King) and first in the 400-meter dash in a time of 49.96.
Also placing for the women were Aleixs Goodman (Tiffin, Ohio / Columbian), who came in fourth in the 100-meter dash, Paige Reiman (Defiance, Ohio / Tinora), who placed fifth in the 100-meter hurdles, and Angela Zellner (Twinsburg, Ohio / Twinsburg), who snagged fifth in the 400-meter hurdles. The women’s 4x100-meter relay team came in third, and the 4x400 team, consisting of Nitchman, Bataille, Zellner, and Jocelyn Hughes (Oberlin, Ohio / Oberlin), came in second.
The men placed three in the 800-meter run; Reed Wolverton (Van Wert, Ohio / Van Wert) came in second, Scott Lasch (Huron, Ohio / Huron) in third, and Eric Holbrook (Circleville, Ohio / Logan Elm) raced into fifth. Lasch also placed second in the 1500-meter run. The men’s 4x100 team placed first in a time of 42.41 and the 4x400 team, consisting of Wolverton, Hendricks, Terrence Horton (Pickerington, Ohio / Pickerington), and Justin Zuchowski (Brunswick, Ohio / Brunswick), came in third.
In field events for the men, newcomer Zip Zimmer (Warsaw, Ohio / River View) placed fourth in the pole vault and fifth in the javelin throw, while Adam Ohlemacher (Oak Harbor, Ohio / Oak Harbor) came in third in the triple jump and second in the long jump behind teammate Julius Higginbotham (Elyria, Ohio / Elyria).
Both teams race next at the Malone Invite on Saturday, April 5 in Canton, Ohio.
