Heidelberg Competes at Duke Asics Invitational
Members of the Heidelberg College track and field team participated in the Duke Asics Invitational held at Duke University in North Carolina over the weekend. Overall, the Berg earned five top-15 finishes at the Division I meet.
For the women, Indoor National Champion in the 55-meter dash Judy Bataille (Felicity, Ohio / Felicity-Franklin) came in 12th in the 200-meter dash and set yet another school record. Her time of 25.42 beats the record set by her earlier this season by .07 seconds. She also came in eighth in the 100-meter dash, in a time of 12.37 The 4x100-meter relay, featuring Bataille, Colleen Nitchman (Wakeman, Ohio / Western Reserve), Catie Evers (Burkettsville, Ohio / St. Henry), and Jamie Depinet (New Riegel, Ohio / New Riegel), posted a ninth place finish with a time of 49.64.
The men saw Scott Lasch (Huron, Ohio / Huron) come in 14th in the 5,000-meter run in a time of 15:18.02 and Julius Higginbotham (Elyria, Ohio / Elyria) jumped 22’ 8” in the long jump for a third place finish. The 4x100 team, comprised of Higginbotham, Tyson Brown (Van Wert, Ohio / Van Wert), Paris Hilliard (Lorain, Ohio / Admiral King), and Wes Hendricks (Beavercreek, Ohio / Beavercreek), came in sixth in a time of 41.97, provisionally qualifying them for the National Championships.
Heidelberg returns to competition in Ohio on Saturday, April 12, at the All-Ohio Championships held at Ohio Wesleyan University.
