Meadows Stars in Pippin’

What if someone told you that a student who is not even a theatre major would not only earn a lead role in a school play but perform at a high level? Well, look no elsewhere than Heidelberg University for vindication. Heidelberg University’s men’s track and field team was represented during Heidelberg’s rendition of the popular musical Pippin’ in early October. By earning the lead role, sophomore Brett Meadows showed that anything is possible when you put your mind to it.

Meadows was humbled with earning this role, while being inspired at the same time. “I am very lucky and honored to receive this role in Pippin’.” Meadows said. “I knew other people wanted it as much as I did. I was inspired by the story. A man who wants to find meaning in life is much like any man I think. Everyone needs to find their meaning in life.”

By competing on the Heidelberg’s track and field team, Meadows has learned how to relax before performing. Whether he is racing in the 4x400 meter relay or performing in a musical, he sticks to the same regimen before he performs. “To me they are very similar,” Meadows said. “I still need to warm up before going on to the stage or a track meet, but unlike many runners before a track meet, I like to calm myself down. In my mind, I got through what I have to do, such as my form and phases while I run or repeating my lines before a play.”

A Marysville, Ohio, native, Meadows not only looks to succeed in future productions but on the rubber tartan as well. “My goal for this year is to be better than I was last year,” Meadows said. “I look to place in the OAC Championships and for the team to place first.”

Majoring in political science with a minor in theatre, Meadows plans on pursuing law school after graduation.
