Bexley, Ohio – January 16, 2010 – The Heidelberg University’s men’s and women’s indoor track & field teams competed in their first meet of the New Year today at the Rev. Mike Hout Invite hosted by Capital University at Capital Center Fieldhouse. The men’s team finished third overall while the women finished fourth.
The Berg had sixteen participants meet the qualifications of the Ohio Athletic Conference standards to earn a spot in competing in conference.
Leading the individual events off for the men was Josh Lynch (Dayton, Ohio / Meadowdale) taking a first place finish in the high jump (6’3.5”) and also finished fifth in the triple jump (42’08.75”). Also, earning a first place finish was Mark Childs (New Albany, Ohio / New Albany) in the 1000 meter run at a time of 2:40.34. Josh Bowmar (Marengo, Ohio / Highland) took a second place finish in the 400 meter dash with a time of 51.41. In the men 500 meter run Terrence Horton (Pickerington, Ohio / Pickerington) finished second (1:08.70) with Shondell Thomas following behind in fifth place (1:09.67). Devin Butcher (Bowling Green, Ohio / Bowling Green) ran in for a third place finish in the 3000 meter run (8:54.06). Also, receiving qualifying times was Justin Burnett (Springfield, Ohio / Northwestern) in the 200 meter dash (23.55) and in the 60 meter dash Gibril Kamara (7.16) and Paris Hilliard (Lorain, Ohio / Admiral King) (7.27) and in shot put Frank Medina (Wakeman, Ohio / Western Reserve) (45’03.00”).
Leading the way for the women’s team was Judy Bataille (Felicity, Ohio / Felicity-Franklin) running in for a first place finish in the 200 meter dash with a time of 26.73. Also, earning a first place finish was Jamie Depinet (New Riegel, Ohio / New Riegel) in the 400 meter dash (1:01.23) with Jazmine Shaw (Columbus, Ohio / Hamilton Township) following just behind in fifth place (1:04.00). Taking third place in their events were Marian Bevington (Celina, Ohio / Parkway) in the long jump (15’10.50”) and Aaliyah VanLeer (Cleveland Heights, Ohio / Cleveland Heights) in the shot put (37’01.25”).
The 4x200 meter women’s relay team of Depinet, Alexis Goodman (Tiffin, Ohio / Columbian), Shanice McLellan (Lima, Ohio / Lima Senior) and Shaw received first place (1:51.83) along with the women’s 4x400 meter relay team of Depinet, Lilly Hansberger (Norwalk, Ohio / Western Reserve), Bataille and Shaw (4:14.72). The men’s 4x400 meter relay team of Bowmar, Andrew Schwartz, Lance Kitchen (Urbana, Ohio / Liberty) and Childs took second place (3:29.09)
