'Berg Races at All-Ohio

Westerville, Ohio – February 13, 2010 – Following a two-week break due to inclement weather, the Heidelberg University indoor men’s and women’s track and field teams took part in the 2010 All-Ohio Championships hosted by Otterbein College in Westerville, Ohio.

A total of 19 teams each took part on both the men’s and women’s side. Heidelberg had a handful of placers on both sides.

For the women Jamie Depinet (New Riegel, Ohio / New Riegel) and the 4x200-meter relay team of Depinet, Alexis Goodman (Tiffin, Ohio / Columbian), Jazmine Shaw (Columbus, Ohio / Hamilton Township) and Judy Bataille (Felicity, Ohio / Felicity-Franklin) took home championships. Depinet crossed the finish line in 59.94 to take first in the 400-meter dash, while the 4x200-meter relay team was victorious in 1:46.39.

Having an impressive outing on both the track and in the field was freshman Marian Bevington (Celina, Ohio / Parkway). Bevington took home fifth place in the 55-meter hurdles in 8.72 and in the high jump, clearing 5’0.5”. She concluded her day with a sixth in the long jump (16’8.5”).

Not only did Bataille team up for a top finish, but excelled as an individual as well. In the preliminaries for the 55-meter dash she ran a qualifying time and a NCAA provisional qualifying mark of 7.23. In the finals, Bataille took home runner-up honors in an automatic qualifying time of 7.08. Bataille has now officially qualified for the NCAA Championships slated for March 12-13 at DePauw University in Greencastle, Ind.

Taking home fifth place was the 4x400-meter relay team of Bataille, Jessica Jones (Wauseon, Ohio / Wauseon), Lilly Hansberger (Norwalk, Ohio / Western Reserve) and Depinet. The quartet finished in 4:13.52.

Rounding out the placers for the women was Aaliyah VanLeer (Cleveland Heights, Ohio / Cleveland Heights). VanLeer took home seventh place in the shot put with a toss of 37’0.25”.

Leaping to a provisional qualifying mark in the long jump to lead the Berg men was Julius Higginbotham (Elyria, Ohio / Elyria). Higginbotham finished first with a leap of 22’11.25”.

Providing depth in the field was Josh Lynch (Dayton, Ohio / Meadowdale). Lynch finished fifth in the triple jump (42’11.5”).

Josh Bowmar (Marengo, Ohio / Highland) took home seventh place in the 400-meter dash. Bowmar crossed the finish line in 50.92.

The distance medley relay team and the 4x200-meter relay team rounded out the scoring for the Berg with fourth place finishes. The distance medley team of John Distler (Mentor, Ohio / Mentor), Lance Kitchen (Urbana, Ohio / Liberty), Mark Childs (New Albany, Ohio / New Albany) and Devin Butcher (Bowling Green, Ohio / Bowling Green) finished in 10:40.05. Representing the 4x200-meter relay team (1:33.44) was Paris Hilliard (Lorain, Ohio / Admiral King), Bowmar, Gibril Kamara and Justin Burnett (Springfield, Ohio / Northwestern).
