'Berg Performs Well at Gina Relays

Hillsdale, Mich. – April 24, 2010 - The Heidelberg University men's and women’s track and field team, under the guidance of second-year head coach Keith Roberts Jr. competed at the Gina Relays hosted by Hillsdale College in a three-day event.

Both teams showed depth as they competed against Division I, II and III schools.
 
The men were highlighted by the 4x400 meter relay team. Josh Bowmar (Marengo, Ohio / Highland), Mark Childs (New Albany, Ohio / New Albany), Joe Yoder (West Liberty, Ohio / West Liberty Salem) and Terrance Horton (Pickerington, Ohio / Pickerington) placed second with a time of 3:16.30. The time has inked them on the provisional list for nationals at the end of May. Following the weekend, the relay's time ranks fourth on the national list. As the anchor of the relay, Horton ran an impressive 48.2.

Nate Davis (Dayton, Ohio / Stivers School for the Arts) earned ninth place out of a pool of 38 competitors in long jump. His leap of 23'1.25" has earned him a provisional mark for nationals. Davis' jump in the long jump stands 18th the nation following the weekend. Davis also jumped 6'6.75" in the high jump for a seventh-place finish. His provisional mark in the long jump joins his name on the national list in the high jump. Davis provisonally qualified for nationals in the high jump earlier this month. He cleared a school record 6'9.5" which currently sits fifth in the country.

Representing Heidelberg with a top-three finish was Julius Higginbotham (Elryia, Ohio / Elyria). Higginbotham took third in the 100-meter dash after crossing the finish line in 11.08. Higginbotham followed closed behind Davis in the long jump competition. He placed 14th with a leap of 21'11.75".

Bowmar finished in the top-15 in the 400 meter dash with a time of 50.05.

Finishing in the top-20 in the 200 meter dash were Paris Hilliard (Lorain, Ohio / Admiral King) (22.87) and Justin Burnett (Springfield, Ohio / Northwestern) 23.07. Childs also finished in the top-20 in the 800 meter run (1:58.87).

Lance Kitchen (Urbana, Ohio / Liberty) represented the Berg in the 400-meter hurdles with a 19th place finish (57.18).                                                                                                                         

On the women’s side, Marian Bevington (Celina, Ohio / Parkway) finished ninth out of 43 runners in the 100-meter hurdles. Her time of 15.06 was a hundredth of second off from tying the school record of 15.05, held by Tomika Brown (2009).

Alexis Goodman (Tiffin, Ohio / Columbian) finished in the top-20 in the 100 meter dash with a time of 13.10.
