'Berg Competes at All-Ohio

Gambier, Ohio – February 12, 2011 – The Heidelberg University track and field teams, under the guidance of first-year head coach Briana Shook, participated at the Division III All-Ohio Championships today. The event was hosted by Kenyon College.

Out of 18 schools, the women finished eighth, while the men placed 11th.

The women mustered up 30 points, while sophomore Marian Bevington (Celina, Ohio / Parkway) earned 22 alone.

Bevington earned first in long jump with a leap of 17’11”, which marks three straight-weeks that she has recorded a provisional mark. Bevington also took third in triple jump (34’.25”) and in the 55 meter hurdles (8.72).

Junior Alexis Goodman (Tiffin, Ohio / Columbian) finished third in the 55 meter dash crossing the finish line at 7.54. Rounding out the point earners was junior Aaliyah VanLeer (Cleveland Heights, Ohio / Cleveland Heights) who placed seventh in shot put with a throw of 36’3”.

The men, who finished with a total of 21 points, were led by junior Joe Yoder (West Liberty, Ohio / West Liberty Salem). Yoder finished fourth in the 55 meter hurdles with a time of 7.89 and earned sixth in high jump with a leap of 6’3.5”.

Yoder was also part of the 4x400 meter relay team that earned a third place finish clocking in at 3:27.65. Completing the quartet was freshman Tyler Harris (Berea, Ohio / Berea) and seniors Seth Robertson (Burton, Ohio / Newbury) and Terrence Horton (Pickerington, Ohio / Pickerington).

Rounding out the points on the men’s side was the 4x200 meter relay team consisting of Harris, sophomore Gibril Kamara (Westerville, Ohio / Central), freshman Jamil Boldian (Chicago, Ill. / Urban Youth), and sophomore Justin Burnett (Springfield, Ohio / Northwestern) who finished sixth place at 1:33.40.

The Heidelberg track and field team also participated at the 2011 Baldwin-Wallace Mid February Meet this weekend.

Freshman Jennifer Brown (Euclid, Ohio / Euclid) placed second in the 500 meter dash with a time of 1:22.58.

Tyler Harris finished third in the 200 meter dash (23.53), while junior Jacob Hoffman (Shelby, Ohio / Shelby) earned second in the 1,000 meter run (2:43.08).

Also competing was sophomore Gareth Graver (Enon, Ohio / Greenon) (15:47.47) and junior Jordan Karnes (Edgerton, Ohio / Edgerton) (15:55.82) who earned first and second, respectively, in the 5,000 meter run. Freshman Drew Avsec (Geneva, Ohio / Geneva) took fifth in the 1 mile run (4:32.52).

In the field, Frank Medina (Wakeman, Ohio / Western Reserve) earned fourth in the weight throw with a toss of 46’6”.
