Myrtle Beach, S.C. – March 19, 2011 – The Heidelberg University men’s and women’s track and field teams opened up its outdoor season, while participating in the Coastal Invite hosted by Coastal Carolina University. The event, which took place at Myrtle Beach High School’s Doug Shaw Stadium, featured 38 teams and over 1,200 athletes from around the country.
Highlighted on the men’s side was junior Jordan Karnes (Edgerton, Ohio / Edgerton) who finished third in the 3,000 meter steeplechase with a time of 9:34.58.
Also earning a top-10 finish for the Berg was sophomore Nate Davis (Dayton, Ohio / Stivers). He earned seventh in high jump (6’4.75”) and eighth in the high jump invitational with a total of 22’3.5”.
Senior Frank Medina (Wakeman, Ohio / Western Reserve) earned 15th place in shot put with a throw of 45’.25”. Following with top-20 finishes was senior Seth Roberton (Burton, Ohio / Newbury) who finished the 400 meter dash in the time of 50.17 (16th) and the 4x400 meter relay team consisting of sophomore Justin Burnett (Springfield, Ohio / Northwestern), senior Terrence Horton (Pickerington, Ohio / Pickerington), freshman Jamil Boldian (Chicago, Ill. / Urban Youth) and Robertson who clocked in at 3.25.71.
On the women’s side sophomore Bobbi Custer (Woodstock, Ohio / Triad) finished 18th in the 5,000 meter run with a time of 19:17.17. Junior Jazmine Shaw (Columbus, Ohio / Hamilton Township) followed with a 31st place finish in the 400 meter dash, crossing the finish line at 1:00.65.
Also making an impact was junior Alexis Goodman (Tiffin, Ohio / Columbian). Goodman earned 35th in the 100 meter dash (13.15) and 42nd in the 200 meter dash (26.47).
