Cedarville, Ohio – March 26, 2011 – The Heidelberg University men’s and women’s outdoor track and field teams earned second and sixth place, respectively, at the Yellow Jacket Collegiate Open held on the campus of Cedarville University.
The men earned 90 points, including four first-place finishes. Sophomore Nate Davis (Dayton, Ohio / Stivers) placed first in long jump (22’.75”) and in high jump with a leap of 6’5”. His high jump mark was only 2.75” off from a NCAA provisional qualifying score.
Also earning first place was Indoor All-American junior Joe Yoder (West Liberty, Ohio / West Liberty Salem). Yoder won by 2.53 seconds in the 400 meter hurdles and just missed a provisional mark by under a minute.
Rounding out the top finishers was the 4x400 meter relay team consisting of Yoder, sophomore Justin Burnett (Springfield, Ohio / Northwestern) seniors Terrence Horton (Pickerington, Ohio / Pickerington) and Seth Robertson (Burton, Ohio / Newbury). They clocked in at 3:24.32, winning by more than six seconds.
Robertson also took third in the 400 meter dash with a time of 50.43, while Horton earned third place in the 800 meter run at 1:58.82.
Junior Adam Bumb (Alvada, Ohio / New Riegel) earned second in the triple jump with a leap of 38’2.25”. Senior Frank Medina (Wakeman, Ohio / Western Reserve) earned a personal record of 132’ in the hammer throw, while placing 11th.
Earning third place was the 4x100 meter relay team which included sophomores Justin Burnett (Springfield, Ohio / Northwestern), Gibril Kamara (Westerville, Ohio / Central), Larry Massey (Royal Oak, Mich. / Wylie E. Groves) and freshman Jamil Boldian (Chicago, Ill. / Urban Youth) with crossing the finish line at 45.42.
On the women’s side, All-American sophomore Marian Bevington (Celina, Ohio / Parkway) was part of 26 of Heidelberg’s 51.50 points. She earned first in long jump with a leap of 17’11.75”, which was just less than five inches off a provisional mark.
Bevington also earned second in 100 meter hurdles with a time of 17.04. She was also part of the 4x100 meter relay team that earned a second place finish, clocking in at 50.43. Completing the quartet was freshman Samantha Filliater (Fostoria, Ohio / Lakota), junior Jazmine Shaw (Columbus, Ohio / Hamilton Township), and senior Alexis Goodman (Tiffin, Ohio / Columbian).
Freshman Amber Welfe (Norwalk, Ohio / St.Paul) earned second place in the long jump in her collegiate track debut with a leap of 16.6”.
Also finishing strong was the 4x400 meter relay team consisting of junior Lillian Hansberger (Norwalk, Ohio / Western Reserve), freshman Jennifer Brown (Euclid, Ohio / Euclid), senior Alexis Goodman (Tiffin, Ohio / Columbian) and Shaw. They clocked in at 4:13.26 and earned third place.
