Tiffin, Ohio – June 3, 2011 – Senior Seth Robertson (Burton, Ohio / Sunbury) and junior Jordan Karnes (Edgerton, Ohio / Edgerton) of the Heidelberg University men’s track and field team added to their academic resumes this week. The duo landed a spot on the Capital One Cross Country / Track and Field College Division Academic All-District IV First Team. It is the first academic all-district accolade for both student-athletes.
To be eligible for academic all-district honors a student-athlete must be in at least his second year at an institution and be in his second year in a respective spot. They must possess strong athletic credentials, while maintaining a minimum cumulative grade point average. There are eight geographic districts and the college division team combines NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, NAIA, Canadian and two‐year schools. Heidelberg is located in district IV which includes institutions from the states of Ohio, Michigan, Kentucky, Tennessee and Alabama. The teams are voted on by members of the College Sports Information Director’s of America (CoSIDA).
While at Heidelberg Robertson studied accounting and computer information systems. His academic-all-district honor joins his spot on the Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference First Team. It also comes on the heels of earning All-American honors in the 4x400-meter relay at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships last weekend. In his final season on the indoor and outdoor track he earned All-OAC honors in the 400-meter dash and the 4x400-meter relay. He helped to lead the outdoor 4x400-meter relay team to the league championship.
Karnes is studying accounting at the Berg. He is also a member of the cross country team and represented the Berg at nationals in the fall after securing his second all-league first team honor. In May he was named to the Academic All-OAC First Team for the second consecutive season. This spring he raced to his third straight all-league finish in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.
