Josh Lynch Leads ‘Berg Track & Field Teams at Northwest Ohio Invitational

FINDLAY, Ohio—Junior Josh Lynch (Dayton/Meadowdale) won a pair of individual titles to highlight several standout performances by the Heidelberg University men's and women's indoor track & field teams tonight at the Northwest Ohio Invitational hosted by Findlay University in the Malcolm Athletic Center in Findlay, Ohio. The meet was unscored.

Lynch claimed both the high jump (6-6.00) and triple jump (44-9.00) crowns, topping fields of 10 and 11, respectively.

Also claiming individual crowns were senior Lilly Hansbegrer (Norwalk/Western Reserve), who coasted to the 500-meter title with a 1:25.38, and junior Marian Bevington (Celina/Parkway), who won the long jump, leaping 16-10.00 to best a field of 19.

In other men’s competition, sophomore Cartel Brooks (Kokomo, Ind./Galion) placed fifth in both the 60-meter dash (7.18) and 200-meter dash (23.50).

In the 500-meter dash, juniors Shondell Thomas (Westerville/South) and Wes Hendricks (Beavercreek) ran to second (1:07.46) and third (1:07.48) place finishes, just hundredths of a second off the pace.

Senior Joe Yoder (West Liberty-West Liberty-Salem) advanced past the 60-meter hurdles preliminaries and clocked a fourth-place showing in the finals in 8.69. Yoder also ran the anchor leg of the 4-x-400-meter relay team—along with Hendricks, sophomore Julius Salgado and Thomas—and turned in a time of 3:31.43, good for fourth place.

Freshman Austin Bentz (Tiffin/Columbian) came in fourth in the long jump with a 20-11.25 jump, followed closely by Lynch in sixth place with a 20-7.75 leap.

Senior John Gogle (Sunbury/Big Walnut) paced nine Student Princes in the 3,000-meter run, clocking a 9:00.19 to finish in sixth.

In women’s events, freshman Caddie Orr (East Liberty/Benjamin Logan) and Bevington each advanced past the preliminaries in the 60-meter dash and placed sixth (10.35) and seventh (10.37), respectively, in the finals.

Senior Aaliyah VanLeer (Cleveland Heights) posted a sixth place finish in the shot put with a throw of 38-7.75

Heidelberg returns to action Friday, Jan. 27 at the Ohio Athletic Conference North Split Squad Meet hosted by Baldwin-Wallace College in Berea, Ohio.
