‘Berg Track & Field Teams Picked 6th, 7th by OAC Coaches

TIFFIN, Ohio—The Heidelberg University men’s and women’s track & field teams were picked to finish the 2012 Ohio Athletic Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships in sixth and seventh place, respectively, in a vote be the league’s head coaches, announced last week by the OAC. The men’s team garnered 44 points, while the women’s team tallied 34.

The Ohio Northern University men, with 77 points and six first-place votes, were tabbed as the favorites. The University of Mount Union, with 72 points and four first-place votes, were a close second. Baldwin-Wallace College (67) was selected third and Marietta College and Otterbein University (47) tied for fourth. Rounding out the top-ten on the men’s side were Heidelberg (44), John Carroll University (38), Wilmington College (28), Muskingum University (21) and Capital University (nine).

Mount Union received 78 points and six first-place votes to take the top spot in the women’s poll, followed by B-W with 70 points and four first-place votes. Marietta (62), Otterbein (50) and ONU slotted the remainder of the top five. JCU (36), Heidelberg (34), Capital (27), Wilmington (18) and Muskingum (13) completed the order.

At last season’s OAC championships, the ‘Berg men placed ninth and the women seventh under first-year head coach Brianna (Shook) Hess.

With two unscored meets under their belts this season, both teams return to action Friday, Jan. 27 at the Ohio Athletic Conference North Split Squad Meet hosted by Baldwin-Wallace in Berea, Ohio.
