WESTERVILLE, Ohio—Junior Nate Davis (Dayton/Stivers) was selected as the 2012 Ohio Athletic Conference Field Athlete of the Year and junior Marian Bevington (Celina/Parkway) captured two more All-Ohio Athletic Conference honors today to lead the Heidelberg University men’s and women’s indoor track & field teams at the 2012 OAC Indoor Track & Field Championships hosted by Otterbein University at the Clement Center in Westerville, Ohio. The Student Prince men garnered 88 points to come in third place, while the women scored 32.5 points to take eighth.
The Ohio Northern University men took the team title with 152 points, followed by the University of Mount Union (143), Heidelberg (88), Baldwin-Wallace College (87) and Marietta College (64). Rounding out the order were Otterbein University (55), John Carroll University (48), Wilmington College (47), Muskingum University (32) and Capital University (25).
The Mount Union women tallied 154.50 points to take the title, followed by B-W (117.5), Marietta (100), ONU (91.5) and Capital (84). Rounding out the order were Otterbein (68), JCU (67), Heidelberg (32.5), Muskingum (14) and Wilmington (12).
One day after winning the long jump, Davis claimed another individual championship, this time in the high jump where had a 6-10.25 mark. Davis was followed by senior Joe Yoder (West Liberty/West Liberty-Salem) in fourth (6-5.50) and junior Josh Lynch (Dayton/Meadowdale) in fifth (6-4.00).
One day after taking third place in the long jump, junior Marian Bevington (Celina/Parkway) ran her All-OAC honors list to three, placing second in the 60-meter hurdles in 9.20 and third in the high jump with a mark of 5-2.50. She also placed sixth in the triple jump with a mark of 34-8.50.
Also highlighting men’s action were Lynch and junior Wes Hendricks (Beavercreek). Lynch recorded a 47-0.25 mark in the triple jump, while Hendricks clocked 49.97 in the 400-meter dash.
Yoder clocked an 8.41 in the 60-meter hurdles to place third.
Yoder also anchored the 4-by-400-meter relay team that came in third place, along with Hendricks, junior Shondell Thomas (Westerville/South) and freshman Austin Bentz (Tiffin/Columbian). The group clocked 3:24.82.
In long distance action, sophomore Drew Avsec (Geneva) ran the 1,000-meter run in 2:36.58 to come in sixth and senior John Gogle (Sunbury/Big Walnut) ran the 5,000-meter run in 15:29.33 to come in eighth.
After advancing past the 60-meter dash prelims, freshman Brandon Sadler (Lorain/Clearview) and junior Gibril Kamara (Westerville/Central) finished in eighth and ninth place, respectively, with identical 7.19 times. Sadler won a tie-breaker by edging Kamara by three one-thousandths of a second.
Senior Lilly Hansberger (Norwalk/Western Reserve) came in fifth in the 400-meter dash in 1:02.31 after advancing past yesterday’s preliminaries.
The top three finishers in each event earn All-OAC status.
Both teams will compete next weekend at a yet to be determined meet.
