TIFFIN, Ohio—The Heidelberg University men’s and women’s track & field teams will have one final opportunity to earn a bid to the 2012 NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships on Friday and Saturday, March 2-3 when they compete at the University of Mount Union’s Last Chance Meet at Peterson Field House in Alliance, Ohio.
The men’s team is coming off a third-place finish last weekend at the 2012 Ohio Athletic Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships in Westerville, while the women’s team rides the momentum of a fifth-place showing after it began the second day of action in eighth place.
Junior Nate Davis (Dayton/Stivers), who was named All-OAC honorable mention in men’s basketball earlier this week, won both the long jump (23-2.00) and the high jump (6-10.25) and was named OAC Field Performer of the Year. Also earning All-OAC status on the men’s side were juniors Wes Hendricks (Beavercreek) and Josh Lynch (Dayton/Meadowdale), both of whom placed second in the 400-meter dash (49.47) and triple jump (47-0.25), respectively, and senior Joe Yoder (West Liberty/West Liberty-Salem), who was second in the 60-meter hurdles (8.41).
Junior Marian Bevington (Celina/Parkway) claimed all three All-OAC honors for the women, placing second in the 60-meter hurdles (9.20) and third in both the long jump (17-11.50) and the high jump (5-2.50).
The top 13 men and top 15 women in each event and the top 10 relay teams earn a bid to the national meet. Davis’ 6-10.25 is currently tied for third nationally and Yoder’s 4,724 points in the heptathlon stand ninth.
The 2012 NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships will be hosted by Grinnell (Iowa) College on Friday and Saturday, March 9-10 in Grinnell, Iowa.
