TIFFIN, Ohio—The Heidelberg University men’s and women’s track & field teams will look to improve their NCAA qualifying marks Thursday and Friday at the Toledo Invitational at the Fetterman Outdoor Track and Field Facility in Toledo, Ohio. The Berg has three more meets left on the 2012 slate to try to qualify individuals for the 2012 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Claremont, Calif.
The men’s team is coming off a fourth-place finish and the women’s team is coming off a seventh-place showing at the 2012 Ohio Athletic Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships last weekend.
Senior Joe Yoder (West Liberty/West Liberty-Salem) and juniors Wes Hendricks (Beavercreek) and Marian Bevington (Celina/Parkway) won the 400-meter hurdles, 400-meter dash and 100-meter hurdles, respectively to highlight the action. Bevington earned All-OAC honors in a total of four events, while juniors Josh Lynch (Dayton/Meadowdale), Nate Davis (Dayton/Stivers) and Shondell Thomas (Westerville/South), and seniors Julius Salgado (Fremont/Ross) and Jazmine Shaw (Columbus/Hamilton Township) also captured All-OAC accolades.
Nationally, three men and Bevington rank inside the top-20 in their respective events. Yoder is seventh in the 400-meter hurdles (53.01) and 16th in the high jump (6-8.00); Davis is seventh in the high jump (6-9.50) and 17th in the long jump (23-4.75); Hendricks is 17th in the 400-meter dash (48.52); and Lynch is 14th in the triple jump (47-7.75).
Bevington is 15th in the 100-meter hurdles (14.68).
Following the Toledo Invitational, both teams will compete in a “Last Chance” meet at a yet to be announced location.
