'Berg Fares Well at NW Ohio Invite

Findlay, Ohio – January 21, 2011 – The Heidelberg University men's and women's track and field team, under the guidance of first-year head coach Briana Shook, participated in the Northwest Ohio Invitational today. The event was hosted by the University of Findlay.

All together, Heidelberg compiled three first-place finishes.

For the men, sophomore Joe Yoder (West Liberty, Ohio / West Liberty Salem) scored first place in the 500 meter dash with crossing the finish line at 1:07.58. Yoder also finished third in the 60 meter hurdles (8.68).

Also earning a first-place finish for the men was the 4x400 meter relay team. The group consisting of senior Seth Robertson (Burton, Ohio / Newbury), freshmen Jamil Boldian (Chicago, Ill. / Urban Youth), and Tyler Harris (Berea, Ohio / Berea), and Yoder topped the field of 10 with a time of 3:31.20.

Robertson also ran a 51.29 in the 400 meter dash, good enough for second, while Harris followed right behind, finishing third (52:28).

Sophomore Gibril Kamara (Westerville, Ohio / Central) (7.12) tabbed third place in the 60 meter dash, while Boldian earned a top-10 finish in the 200 meter dash with a sixth place finish (24.05).

Juniors Jordan Karnes (Edgerton, Ohio / Edgerton) and John Gogle (Sunbury, Ohio / Big Walnut) ran the 3,000 meter race and finished fourth and eight, respectively. Karnes finished in 9:00.13, while Gogle clocked in at 9:10.10.

Making strides on the field was senior Frank Medina (Wakeman, Ohio / Western Reserve) who earned sixth place in shot put with a throw of 47’5.75”.

On the women’s side, Sophomore Marian Bevington (Celina, Ohio / Parkway) shined in the field as she earned first place in long jump with a leap of 17’9.0”. Bevington also took third in high jump with a 4’10.5” mark.

Junior Alexis Goodman (Tiffin, Ohio / Columbian) earned third place in the 60 meter dash, timing in at 8.19, while sophomore Cori Nalbach (Massillon, Ohio / Fairless) took fourth in the 400 meter dash (29.27).

Also making their presence felt on the track were juniors Lilly Hansberger (Norwalk, Ohio / Western Reserve) and Jessica Jones (Wauseon, Ohio / Wauseon) who ran the 500 meter dash and earned second and third place, respectively. Hansberger clocked in at 1:25.99, while Jones finished at 1:26.33.

The 4x400 meter relay team, which included Hansberger and freshmen Jennifer Brown (Euclid, Ohio / Euclid), Sophie Goobic (Canton, N.Y. / Hugh C. Williams), and Jocelyn Staugler (Coldwater, Ohio / Coldwater) earned second place at 4:26.70.

Sophomore Bobbi Custer (Woodstock, Ohio / Triad) finished fourth in the 3,000 meter run with a time of 11:22.33.

Next up for the Berg are the OAC Relays next Saturday (Jan. 29) at Capital University, starting at 10 a.m.
