Student Princes Keep Win-Streak Alive

The Heidelberg College wrestling team faced off against Baldwin-Wallace College for the team’s second Ohio Athletic Conference match of the season. The Berg won by a score of 28-12, raising their record to 4-0 on the season, 2-0 in the OAC. B-W falls to 4-12-1 on the year, 1-1 in OAC action.

The night started off with a quick pin by 125-pounder Jerrad Hoxie (Forest Hills, Mich. / Forest Hills). The freshman standout put his opponent’s shoulders to the mat in just 2:07. But B-W countered immediately with a win at 133, where Brian Bucher defeated Tony Lawler (West Jefferson, Ohio / West Jefferson) 8-4, placing the team score at 6-3 in favor of the Berg.

Nick Sanchez (Lima, Ohio / Bath) responded with a 12-3 major decision over Eric Schubert and was followed by Zach Mizer (Canton, Ohio / Perry) at 149, who tilted his opponent all the way to a 15-0 technical fall victory. No. 2 Joe Pflug (Maple Heights, Ohio / Maple Heights) made it three-in-a-row with a major decision, 10-0, over B-W’s Joe Incorvaia at 157, leaving the team score at 19-3 with the Student Princes holding a commanding lead.

The most watched match of the night came at the 165 pound weight class, where the Berg’s Ian Rammel (St. Mary’s, Ohio / Spencerville) lost to the Yellow Jackets’ no. 2 Gino Russo 9-4. Rammel held the score close until the last minute when Russo found a way to takedown the Student Prince twice and earn a point for riding time.

At 174, Clay Chapman (Bascom, Ohio / Hopewell-Loudon) lost a tight battle to Jeremy Feador 3-2, while Ed Bizorik (Bellevue, Ohio / Western Reserve) fell to B-W’s Anthony Scavuzzo 2-1 at 184. With the team score standing at 19-12 and Heidelberg hoping to maintain their lead for the win, all eyes looked to no. 5 Ryan Fogliano (Maple Heights, Ohio / Maple Heights) in the 197 pound weight class. Fogliano won easily by major decision, 13-4, clinching the win for Heidelberg.

Ryan Bowers (Lima, Ohio / Elida) finished the match off for Heidelberg at heavyweight, defeating his opponent by a technical fall score of 16-1 and topping off the win for Heidelberg.
