Sanchez Grabs 100th Win as Student Princes Defeat the Quakers
No. 8 Nick Sanchez (Lima, Ohio / Bath), a 141-pounder for the no. 6 Heidelberg College wrestling team, received his 100th career win in the form of a forfeit from Wilmington College. The win brings Sanchez’s record up to 23-4 on the year, 5-0 in the OAC, and 100-35 over his career as a grappler for the Student Princes. The Berg won the Ohio Athletic Conference match 49-6 after receiving a total six forfeits on the night.
Zach Mizer (Canton, Ohio / Perry) wrestled the actual first match of the night at 149 for Heidelberg. He pinned Wilmington’s Mark Sedziol in 3:51. He was followed by Matt Curley (Brecksville, Ohio / Lakewood) at 157, who defeated Tim Detwiller by major decision, 12-1.
The only loss of the night for the Student Princes came at the 197 pound weight class, where Rick Weatherholt (West Chester, Ohio / Lakota West) was pinned by Wilmington’s John Waggy. No. 7 Ryan Bowers (Lima, Ohio / Elida) capped the night off at heavyweight for Heidelberg, winning a 3-1 decision over Adam Salyers.
Heidelberg remains undefeated in conference action (5-0) and holds a record of 10-2 on the year. The Berg faces off next Tuesday, February 12, against Muskingum College in New Concord, Ohio at 7:30 p.m. A win would seal the second-ever OAC Regular Season Title for the program, the first came in 2006.
