Sanchez Earns Second OAC Wrestler of the Week Title
Though, during the only match the Heidelberg College wrestling team had last week, senior 141-pounder Nick Sanchez (Lima, Ohio / Bath) received a forfeit from Wilmington College, he still managed to grab the Ohio Athletic Conference Wrestler of the Week title for the week of February 11, 2008. This was in part due to the fact that the forfeit gave Sanchez his 100th career win while at the Berg. He is only the third wrestler in school history to top triple digits, coming in behind ’06 grad Mark Zimmerman (107 wins) and ’97 grad and current head coach Jason Miller (136 wins).
Sanchez stands at 100-35 for his career, while accumulating a record of 23-4 so far this season, 5-0 in the OAC. He received his first Wrestler of the Week nod earlier this season for the week of January 2nd, and joins fellow teammates Robbie Brubeck (Findlay, Ohio / Findlay) and Ryan Fogliano (Maple Heights, Ohio / Maple Heights) in receiving the honor this season. Brubeck won the award for the week of December 3rd and Fogliano picked it up for the week of December 10th.
Heidelberg, 10-2 overall and 5-0 in the OAC, competes next in New Concord, Ohio where the team will face off against Muskingum College in a 7:30 p.m. match on Tuesday, February 12. If the Berg walks away victorious they will have once again claimed the OAC Regular Season Championship, the second time in three years.
