Four Wrestlers Place at Harris Auto Center Open

Nick Sanchez (Lima, Ohio / Bath), Joe Newland (Urbana, Ohio / St. Paris Graham), Matt Curley (Brecksville, Ohio / Lakewood), and Ed Bizorik (Bellevue, Ohio / Bellevue) all placed for the Heidelberg College wrestling team at the Harris Auto Center Open held at Ashland University over the weekend. Over 23 teams took part in the 15th annual event, including over 300 wrestlers.
 
Sanchez, a 141-pounder for the Student Princes, finished the weekend with a record of 5-1. His lone loss was to Doug Surra of West Liberty State College by a close score of 3-2. Sanchez took third after receiving a medical default from opponent Kyle Packer of Newberry College.
 
Coming in fifth for the Berg was Newland, a freshman 149-pound wrestler. Newland lost to Ryan Hurley from Cleveland State University 3-1 in overtime, but wrestled back in three straight matches to place. In his last match of the day, Newland defeated Corey Phillips of Eastern Michigan University when Phillips medically defaulted. Newland also finished 5-1 on the day.
 
Placing sixth for Heidelberg were Curley and Bizorik at 157 and 197 respectively. Curley completed the weekend with a record of 5-2, defaulting his last match to Brian Leggett of West Liberty. While, Bizorik finished at 3-2, after also defaulting his final match to John McClure of Eastern Michigan.
 
The Berg returns to action Tuesday, Nov. 27 at Mount Union, where it will open up Ohio Athletic Conference action against the Purple Raiders at 7:30 p.m.
