Student Princes Dominate Mount Union
In their first Ohio Athletic Conference match of the season, the no. 4 Heidelberg College wrestling team, led by head coach Jason Miller, let the Purple Raiders of Mount Union know that they have earned their ranking. The Student Princes came away from the mat victorious, 45-3.
Heidelberg reigned the champions in every match except for a close 4-3 loss in the 157-pound weight class for Matt Curley (Brecksville, Ohio / Lakewood) at the hands of Mount’s George Comer.
Dominic Cribari (Chesterland, Ohio / West Geauga) started things off with a 7-4 victory for the Berg at 125-pounds, followed by a pin in 5:52 by Boomer Fechko (Brunswick, Ohio / Brunswick) at 133. No. 6 ranked Nick Sanchez (Lima, Ohio / Lima Bath) kept the streak going at 141 with a pin in the time of 2:16, while Joe Newland (Urbana, Ohio / St. Paris Graham) defeated Mount’s Sean Dreger 5-0 to place the team scores at 18-0.
After the loss at 157, Heidelberg bounced back at 165, where no. 7 Ian Rammel (St. Mary's, Ohio / Spencerville) completed his match with a 9-5 decision over Mike Manypenny. At 174 and 184 Mike Rando (Oak Harbor, Ohio / Oak Harbor) and Ed Bizorik (Bellevue, Ohio / Bellevue) both pinned their opponents in 6:55. Brad Rice (West Jefferson, Ohio / West Jefferson) picked up a victory at 197 when Adam Lange medically defaulted. Heidelberg’s last victory of the night came in the 285-pound weight class where Robbie Brubeck (Findlay, Ohio / Findlay) picked up a forfeit for the Berg.
Heidelberg spars next at the Petrofes Invitational in Gratham, Pa. Wrestling begins at 12 p.m. on Friday, November 30, and resumes the next morning at 9 a.m.
