Petrofes Invitational Trophy Remains in Tiffin

The no. 4 Heidelberg College wrestling team emerged victorious for the second year in a row at the Petrofes Invitational held at Messiah College in Gratham, Pa. Placing second was no. 14 Cortland State, followed by no. 15 SUNY-Brockport in third. The Berg had 12 wrestlers place at the event.
 
Ed Bizorik (Bellevue, Ohio / Bellevue) not only placed third at 184-pounds for the Student Princes, he was also awarded the trophy for Most Pins in the Least Amount of Time. Bizorik put three of his five opponents on their backs over the weekend and received a forfeit in the finals.
 
Jerrad Hoxie (Forest Hills, Mich. / Forest Hills) and Jake Weisman (Bexley, Ohio / Bexley) came in third and sixth repectively for the Berg at 125, followed by Boomer Fechko (Brunswick, Ohio / Brunswick) in first at 133. At 149, Zach Mizer (Canton, Ohio / Perry) and Bryan Massong (Cincinnati, Ohio / Oak Hills) grappled their way to fourth and fifth place finishes, while Matt Curley (Brecksville, Ohio / Lakewood) finished the tournament in third at 157.
 
Aaron Jonhenry (Berea, Ohio / Berea) completed his first tournament of the year in third place at 165, while no. 7 Ian Rammel (St. Mary’s, Ohio / Spencerville) finished seventh in the same weight class. No. 7 Ryan Fogliano (Maple Heights, Ohio / Maple Heights) won the top spot at 197-pounds for Heidelberg.
 
Heidelberg showed its dominance at heavyweight when Robbie Brubeck (Findlay, Ohio / Findlay) defeated no. 6 Ryan Bowers (Lima, Ohio / Elida) in the finals 4-2 for the tournament championship. The tournament allows schools to enter more than one wrestler at a weight class, explaining the Brubeck-Bowers match-up.

Heidelberg opens up at home on Friday, Dec. 7 against no. 9 Olivet College. Wrestling begins at 7:30 p.m.
