Fogliano Awarded Wrestler of the Week Honor

In 80 seconds Ryan Fogliano (Maple Heights, Ohio / Maple Heights) sealed the win for Heidelberg College’s wrestling team against no. 15 Olivet College last Friday night. In that short span of time the 197-pound wrestler managed to takedown the Comet’s Joe Yurisich and get his shoulders on the mat for the pin. The match ended with the Berg ahead by a final score of 27-9, before Fogliano’s match the team held an 18-9 advantage.

It was not only the highlight of the night for the team, which is ranked fourth in Division III nationally, but it was the highlight of the week for wrestling within the Ohio Athletic Conference. The win brought Fogliano’s record to 5-0 on the year and garnered him a Wrestler of the Week honor from the OAC, the second of his career. Ranked fifth in the nation this season, Fogliano won the Messiah-Petrofes Invitational on December 1 and has helped lead the Student Princes to a 3-0 dual meet record.

It is the second time this season that a Student Prince has been given the OAC Wrestler of the Week title. Robbie Brubeck (Findlay, Ohio / Findlay) hands off the award to his teammate after winning it the previous week for his hard work on the mat.

Fogliano and Heidelberg compete next at the Ohio Northern Invitational on Saturday, December 15. Wrestling starts at 9 a.m.
