'Berg Grapplers Win 11th Consecutive Home OAC Dual
The Heidelberg wrestling team took command early and never looked back en route to a 37-3 Ohio Athletic Conference victory over Mount Union College under the spotlight in Seiberling Gymnasium in Tiffin, Ohio.
The Berg won nine of 10 weights classes to improve to 2-1 on the year and remain undefeated in league duals at 2-0, while the Purple Raiders stand at 1-3 overall and 1-1 against OAC foes.
Entering the match ranked 24th in the nation, Heidelberg extended its home OAC winning streak to 11 matches.
Heidelberg claimed 12 points on the night via Mount Union forfeits at 125 and 285 pounds. Earnings wins by forfeit wereJerrad Hoxie (Grand Rapids, Mich. / Forest Hills Northern) and Tony Carothers (Bloomingdale, Ohio / Harrison Central).
At 165 pounds, sophomore Matt Curley (Brecksville, Ohio / Lakewood) posted a 16-1 technical fall to lead the way on the night.
Tony Lawler (West Liberty, Ohio / West Liberty-Salem) and no. 5 Zach Mizer (Canton, Ohio / Perry) each had major decisions. Lawler won 16-3 at 133 pounds, while Mizer had two three-point near falls on his way to an 11-0 win.
Picking up their first OAC decisions on the year were Boomer Fechko (Brunswick, Ohio / Brunswick) (141), Mac Henry (Bowling Green, Ohio / Bowling Green) (174), Ed Bizorik (Bellevue, Ohio / Bellevue) (184) and Brad Rice (West Jefferson, Ohio / West Jefferson) (197).
