Four Grapplers Place at York Invitational
Four members of the nationally ranked Heidelberg College wrestling team placed today at the York Spartan Invitational hosted by York College in York, Pa.
Bringing home runner-up honors was freshman 157 pounder Ryan Thomas (Novi, Mich. / Novi) and senior heavyweight Tony Carothers (Bloomingdale, Ohio / Harrison Central). Thomas earned a trip to the championship match with a pin in 2:20 in the first round followed by an 8-5 decision and a 9-8 decision. Carothers went 3-1 on the day as well and picked up a fall in 2:59, along with an 8-6 overtime win to get to the finals.
Standing fourth in the final standings was sophomore national qualifier Jerrad Hoxie (Grand Rapids, Mich. / Forest Hills Northern) at 125 pounds and freshman 165 pounder Cory Martinson (Brunswick, Ohio / St. Edwards). Hoxie went 3-1 with three decisions, while Martinson was 3-1 as well with a fall.
