Ten Place at Brute/Zac Jarzynka Sunshine Classic

The Heidelberg College wrestling team had 10 wrestlers place in eight weight classes at the Brute/Zac Jarzynka Sunshine Wrestling Classic tournament, held Sunday and Monday, Dec. 28-29, at Oviedo High School in Oviedo, Fla. Augsburg College hosted the annual event.
 
No team results were kept at the open tournament, which featured five schools ranked in the top 25 in the latest Division III national rankings -- No. 7 Augsburg, No. 6 St. John's, No. 8 Ithaca College, No. 15 College of New Jersey and No. 24 Heidelberg.
 
Leading the way for the Berg was 141 pounder Boomer Fechko (Brunswick, Ohio / Brunswick) and 184 pounder Ed Bizorik (Bellevue, Ohio / Bellevue) with third place finishes.
 
Zach Mizer (Canton, Ohio / Perry) and Tony Carothers (Bloomingdale, Ohio / Harrison Central) finished fourth at 157 pounds and heavyweight, respectively. Standing fifth was Clemens Artmann (Hillsboro, Ohio / Hillsboro) at 141 pounds and Matt Curley (Brecksville, Ohio / Lakewood) at 165 pounds.
 
Standing sixth at 125 pounds was Jerrad Hoxie (Grand Rapids, Mich. / Forrest Hills Northern) and Tony Lawler (West Jefferson, Ohio / West Jefferson) followed suit at 133 pounds.
 
Rounding out the placers at the classic for the Berg was Jake Weisman (Bexley, Ohio / Bexley) and Mac Henry (Bowling Green, Ohio / Bowling Green). Weisman and Henry stood eighth at 133 and 174 pounds, respectively.
 
Fechko finished at 4-1 on the day with a fall. His only loss on the day was a 9-5 decision to the eventual champion, Augsburg’s Tony Vater.

Leading to his third place finish, Bizorik stood 5-1 at the classic. He picked up an 11-10 decision before falling into the consolation bracket where he battled back with four-straight wins, including three major decisions.
 
Nationally ranked Mizer continued his dominance in the early part of the classic. He finished 4-2 over the two-day tournament and picked up a major decision, a technical fall and a pin.
 
Also posting a 4-2 record was Carothers at 285 pounds. Highlighting his list of wins was a fall in 22 seconds.
 
Artmann dropped a 4-2 decision in his first match but rattled off four wins in a row to get back into contention for a spot in the final standings. He went on to earn a 3-1 decision to stand fifth.
 
Curley picked up three wins at the classic, including a major decision, while Lawler finished at 3-3 with a pin and Hoxie had two wins, which included a fall. Also picking up up two wins apiece was Weisman and Henry.
