TIFFIN, Ohio—The Heidelberg University softball team will face John Carroll University on Saturday in the final Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader of the season at Bracken Field in University Heights, Ohio. The first game is slated for 1 p.m.

Heidelberg (16-18, 6-9 OAC) is coming off a split yesterday with Otterbein University. Sophomore center fielder Jami Wagner (Alvada/New Riegel) went a combined 5-for-8 at the plate and senior first baseman Bessie Artino (Bellevue) hit her seventh home run of the season. Junior southpaw Ali Sayre (Sylvania/Northview) hurled a complete game in the opener and struck out four to earn her sixth win of the season.
The Berg offense is led by Artino (.405, 46 RBI, 7 HR, 26 R), who leads the OAC in runs batted-in, is tied for third with senior right-handed pitcher Lexie Pinkelman (Metamora/Evergreen) in home runs, is fourth in slugging percentage (.686), seventh in hitting, and ninth in on-base percentage (.429). She also has a team-high 14 games with two or more RBI. Wagner (.398, 10, 0, 35) is tied for third in the league in runs scored, is tied for fifth in OBP (.444) and tied for 10th in batting average, and leads the team with 18 multi-hit games. Sophomore left fielder Julie Okorn (Euclid) (.369, 12, 0, 24) and sophomore shortstop Erica Huffman (Strongsville) (.339, 17, 2, 24) are also hitting at a productive pace, and Pinkelman (.272, 30, 7, 21) is tied for fifth in the conference in RBI.
In the circle, Sayre (3.30 ERA, 55 K, 90.0 IP) is 6-8 in 16 appearances (13 starts) and is tied for seventh in the OAC with eight complete games and is eighth in innings pitched. Pinkelman (4.68, 66, 82.2) is 5-6 in 16 appearances (13 starts) and is tied with Sayre in complete games and is tied for eighth in the OAC in strikeouts.
The Blue Streaks (25-13, 10-6 OAC) have won three of their last four games following a split Wednesday at Baldwin-Wallace College. The JCU offense is paced by Samantha Becker (.362, 24, 5, 29), who is seventh in the OAC in OBP (.432) and tied for ninth in both home runs and runs scored. Michelle Murphy (.349, 19, 4, 25) is eighth in the conference in OBP (.431). Heather Hurley (.341, 18, 2, 21) and Olivia Mathews (.339, 22, 3, 15) are also strong contributors to the Blue Streak attack.
The Blue Streak pitching staff is anchored by Brittany Danilov. Danilov (2.50, 163, 148.2) leads the OAC in wins (17-5), strikeouts, innings pitched and complete games (16). Trisha Pike (5.07, 47, 89.2) is 8-7 in 16 appearances (14 starts) and is tied for sixth in the league in wins and is ninth in innings pitched.
Following Saturday’s doubleheader, the Berg will host its season finale against The College of Wooster on Monday on Senior Night.
