TIFFIN, Ohio—Heidelberg University senior first baseman Bessie Artino (Bellevue) has been named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-Central Region second team. Artino was also a second-team pick a season ago and is only the fourth person in program history to earn all-region honors.

Artino, a first-team All-Ohio Athletic Conference pick this season, started all 35 games she appeared in and led the team in nearly every offensive category, including batting average (.406), hits (54), home runs (nine), total bases (95), slugging percentage (.714) and on-base percentage (.436), and set school single-season records with 14 doubles and 52 runs batted-in.

Artino finished her career as the school’s all-time leader with 35 doubles, and ranks among the top three with a .412 career batting average (third), 146 hits (third, tied), 101 RBI (second), and 19 home runs (second).

In 2012, Artino logged 17 games with two or more hits and a team-high 16 games with two or more RBI, and recorded the team’s longest hitting streak at 14 games.

Heidelberg finished the 2012 campaign 18-20 overall and 6-11 in the OAC.
