March 6, 2010 – Ft. Myers, Fla. - The Heidelberg University softball team opened its 2010 campaign today at Gene Cusic Classic with a pair of victories. The Berg faced Olivet College and St. Lawrence University at the Lee County Sports Complexin day one of action.
Heidelberg opened the day with a 5-2 win over Olivet.
Sophomore pitcher Dana Thoms (Amherst, Ohio / Firelands) picked up the win while only giving up one earn run, and earning six strikeouts.
Leading the way offensively was sophomore Megan Reinhart (Tiffin, Ohio / Hopewell-Loudon). Reinhart went 2-3 with a double and two runs scored. Freshman Carrie Moran (Lakewood, Ohio / Lakewood) also earned a double to go along with 1 run scored.
In game two, the Berg was triumphant over St. Lawrence with a score of 5-3.
Sophomore Briana Hinz ( Madison, Ohio / Madison) picked up the win, while Thoms earned the save.
Reinhart again provided a big bat for the Berg with a 3-4 outing, which included two singles and a double.
Sophomore Bessie Artino (Bellevue, Ohio / Bellevue) went 2-4 with an RBI, while Moran was 2-4 with two runs scored.
Also making an impact on Heidelberg’s offense was freshman Bridget Moran (Lakewood, Ohio / Lakewood). Moran scored one run, while going 2-4 for the game.
