University Heights, Ohio – April 28, 2010 –The Heidelberg University softball team dropped a doubleheader today to Ohio Athletic Conference foe John Carroll University. Heidelberg lost game one 5-0 and game two 7-0.
The Berg drops to 22-14 overall, 7-9 in the OAC, while the Blue Streaks improve to 23-15, 10-6 against league foes.
In game one, Heidelberg held JCU to only two hits in the first four innings. It wasn’t until the fifth inning when the Blue Streaks got on the board with a solo home run to go up 1-0.
John Carroll added insurance in the sixth with four more runs to push the lead to 5-0.
Dana Thoms (Amherst, Ohio / Firelands) pitched her 16th complete game on the season, while giving up five runs (only two earned) off seven hits. Thoms walked and retired one, while going 12-10 on the year.
Offensively, Ashley Stromack (LaGrange, Ohio / Keystone) led the way with a 2-for-3 outing. Carrie Moran (Lakewood, Ohio / Lakewood) also earned a hit.
The Blue Streaks in game two scored three runs in the third and four in the fourth for an eventual 7-0 win.
Ali Sayre (Sylvania, Ohio / Sylvania-Northview) pitched a complete game, while allowing seven runs off 12 hits. Sayre walked and struck out two and goes to 7-3 on the year.
Earning a hit for Heidelberg was Bridget Moran (Lakewood, Ohio / Lakewood), Natalie Hunt (Maineville, Ohio / Maineville), Kaitlyn Esordi (Brownstown, Mich. / Oscar A. Carlson), and Paige Diers (New Richmond, Ohio / New Richmond).
Heidelberg is back in action Saturday when it hosts Capital University on Senior Day, slated for 1:00 p.m.
Heidelberg will look to tie its single season record of overall wins in school history of 23, set in 1996. It has already tied second-most in the history with 22, which was previously done in 1995.
