‘Berg Stung By the Yellow Jackets

Berea, Ohio – April 21, 2011 – The Heidelberg University softball team suffered a doubleheader sweep to host and Ohio Athletic Conference foe Baldwin-Wallace College at the Cuyahoga Fairgrounds. The Berg lost game one 7-1 and 8-1 in the nightcap.

Heidelberg drops to 21-11 overall and 3-9 in the OAC, while the Yellow Jackets improve to 19-8 overall and 7-5 in conference play.

After trailing 1-0 in the first inning of game one, Erica Huffman (Strongsville, Ohio / Strongsville) knocked in Megan Reinhart (Tiffin, Ohio / Hopewell London) with a single up the middle, to tie it at one run apiece.

Baldwin-Wallace answered scoring two in the second, two in the fourth and two in the sixth.

Offensively, Kelly Martz (Roseville, Mich. / Lakeview) had a team-high two hits, while Bridget Moran (Lakewood, Ohio / Lakewood), Lindsay Horwitz (Gurnee, Ill. / Warren Township) and Reinhart earned a double. Reinhart now has a team-high 13 doubles on the year.

The Yellow Jackets continued its offensive performance in game two and scored three runs in the first, one in the second, three in the fifth and one in the sixth.

Lexie Pinkelman (Metamora, Ohio / Evergreen) started for Heidelberg in both games and goes to 12-5 on the year. Overall, she went 10 innings, while giving up 11 runs (10 earned) off 15 hits. She fanned 10 and walked seven.

The Berg looks to get back in the win column as it host Otterbein University on Friday (April 22) at 1:00 p.m.
