No. 11 Heidelberg Volleyball Splits Pair of Matches at Mount St. Joseph Tournament

 CINCINNATI—The No. 11 Heidelberg University volleyball team split two matches today at the Charlie Wrublewski Tournament hosted by The College of Mount St. Joseph Tournament at the Harrington Center in Cincinnati. The Berg defeated Mount St. Joseph, 3-1 (25-15, 25-3, 24-26, 25-13), but lost to No. 3 Wittenberg University, 3-1 (25-21, 25-28, 25-19), finished in second place.
 
The split makes Heidelberg 7-1.
 
Against Wittenberg, sophomore middle hitter Amber Welfle (Norwalk/St. Paul) led the offensive charge with a team-high 15 kills. Junior setter Rachel Ferguson (Brighton, Mich./Brighton) tallied 19 assists to lead all setters and junior second-team All-OAC middle hitter Marian Bevington (Celina/Parkway) notched six blocks. Senior second-team All-OAC outside hitter Venessa Haase (Miamisburg) led the defense with 18 digs and contributed five service aces.
 
Against Mount St. Joseph, junior honorable mention All-Ohio Athletic Conference right side hitter Jacki Street (Grafton/Midview) had a team-high 12 kills. Senior reigning Ohio Athletic Conference player of the year Jackie Reinhart (New Riegel) led the team with 21 digs. Ferguson again led the team with 13 assists, while Bevington etched a team-high five blocks. 
 
The Berg next plays at the Wittenberg Border Battle on Friday-Saturday, Sept. 16-17, with matches against Alma (Mich.) College and Mount St. Joseph on Friday and Calvin (Mich.) College and Hope (Mich.) College on Saturday.
