TIFFIN, Ohio—The No. 11 Heidelberg University volleyball team will open Ohio Athletic Conference play tomorrow evening when it hosts Wilmington College at 7 pm. at Seiberling Gymnasium in Tiffin, Ohio. The match will be the second of six home dates for the Berg in 2011.
Heidelberg, 10-2 overall, is coming off a 3-1 weekend at the Great Lakes Regional Challenge hosted by Wittenberg University. Heidelberg recorded 3-0 wins over Alma (Mich.) College, The College of Mount St. Joseph and No. 13 Hope (Mich.) College, while dropping a 3-1 decision to Calvin (Mich.) College, the defending NCAA champion and top-ranked team by the American Volleyball Coaches Association.
Additionally, junior outside hitter Marian Bevington (Celina/Parkway) was selected as the Ohio Athletic Conference volleyball player of the week. The 2010 second-team all-conference selection posted season highs of 14 kills and seven blocks—including six solo stops—in a 3-0 victory over No. 13 Hope (Mich.) College.
The ‘Berg is riding a 12-match winning streak against conference foes and a 10-match winning streak in regular season conference play dating back to 2009.
Wilmington comes to Tiffin sporting a 7-7 mark, including a 2-2 split at last weekend’s Manchester (Ind.) Invitational. Despite the split, the Quakers have won four of the last seven matches, including two sweeps.
Following tomorrow night’s match, Heidelberg will face Otterbein University in an OAC matchup on Saturday, Sept. 24 at noon.
