'Berg Volleyball to Host Capital in OAC Match Wednesday

TIFFIN, Ohio—The Heidelberg University volleyball team continues Ohio Athletic Conference play Wednesday night when it hosts Capital University at Seiberling Gymnasium at 7 p.m. The Berg is currently riding a four-match winning streak and has won 12 consecutive sets.

Heidelberg enters the match 13-2 overall and 2-0 in the OAC following sweeps of Otterbein University and Columbus State last weekend in Westerville. In addition, ‘Berg boasts a 14-match winning streak against conference opponents and a 12-match run during regular season conference play dating back to 2009.

Heidelberg is led by junior second-team All-OAC outside hitter Marian Bevington (Celina/Parkway), who has team bests of 107 kills, a .423 hitting percentage and 41 blocks. Senior reigning OAC player of the year Jackie Reinhart (New Riegel) is second on the squad with 86 kills and 137 digs and is approaching 1,000 kills for her career. The offensive attack is guided by junior setter Rachel Ferguson (Brighton, Mich./Brighton) and sophomore setter Alexa Frank (Tiffin/Calvert), who lead the team with 207 assists and 154 assists, respectively.

Defensively, three student-athletes—including Reinhart—have already tallied 100 digs, led by freshman libero Tessa Benanzer’s (Fort Loramie) 145.

Capital comes to Tiffin with a 12-7 overall and 0-1 OAC record and is looking to break a three-match losing skid. Four Crusaders have eclipsed the 100-kill mark, led by Sanaya El-Naggar’s 172. Marissa Price handles the majority of the setting duties and has a team-high 529 set assists. On defense, El-Naggar has 282 digs, while Melissa Verhoff has blocked a team-high 55 attacks.
