Reinhart Records 1,000th Career Kill as 'Berg Volleyball Defeats Capital, 3-1, in Tiffin

TIFFIN, Ohio—Senior reigning OAC player of the year Jackie Reinhart (New Riegel) recorded her 1,000th career kill tonight to lead the Heidelberg University volleyball team to a 3-1 (22-25, 25-23, 25-21, 25-12) victory against Capital University in an Ohio Athletic Conference match at Seiberling Gymnasium in Tiffin, Ohio. ‘Berg won the last three sets to claim the win.

The win improves Heidelberg to 14-2 overall and 3-0 in the OAC, while the loss drops Capital to 12-8 and 0-2 in the OAC.

Reinhart and senior second-team All-OAC outside hitter Venessa Haase (Miamisburg) each had double-doubles and junior setter Rachel Ferguson (Brighton, Mich./Brighton) and sophomore setter Alexa Frank (Tiffin/Calvert) each had 20-plus assists.

Offensively, junior second-team All-OAC outside hitter Marian Bevington (Celina/Parkway) tallied a team-high 15 kills and was followed by Reinhart and Haase with 13 kills and a match-high 22 digs and 11 kills and 21 digs, respectively.

Haase also recorded her 1,000th career kill recently.

Ferguson led the team with 24 assists, while Frank had 20 helpers of her own.

In addition to Reinhart and Haase on defense, freshman defensive specialist Tessa Benanzer’s (Fort Loramie) added 17 digs to give the Berg three student-athletes with 15-plus digs. Bevington blocked a match and season-high 12 attacks and Reinhart had five stops.

Heidelberg returns to tournament play Friday and Saturday, Sept. 30-Oct. 1 with four matches at Nazareth (N.Y.) College’s Purple & Gold Invitational in Rochester, N.Y. The Berg will play Medaille (N.Y.) College and SUNY Geneseo on Friday and faces Nazareth and Wisconsin – Oshkosh on Saturday.
