Tiffin, Ohio – September 1, 2009 –The Heidelberg University volleyball team, under the guidance of 10th-year head coach Jason Miller, extended its home winning streak to 17 with a sweep (26-24, 25-21, 25-18) of the College of Wooster in non-conference action tonight. Tonight’s outing marked the season opener for both schools. The victory was also the 10th-striaght home non- conference win for the Berg.
In set one, Heidelberg utilized three service aces by Jackie Reinhart (New Riegel, Ohio / New Riegel) and three kills from Amanda Atchison (Frankfort, Ohio / Frankfort Adena) to give Heidelberg its first lead of the set at 21-19. Heidelberg and Wooster battled back and forth through three ties, but the Berg would never relinquish the lead and went on to post a 26-24 win.
Heidelberg and Wooster battled through eight ties and six lead changes before set two ended. With the set tied 21-21, Reinhart recorded her fifth service ace on the night to start a 4-0 run to give the Berg a 25-21 victory.
Back-to-back attack errors by Wooster gave Heidelberg the lead for good in set three. Heidelberg extended its advantage to as many as eight points, 20-12, before posting a 25-18 win.
Venessa Haase (Miamisburg, Ohio / Miamisburg) paced three with double digit kills with 11. Tallying 10 kills apiece was Atchison and Reinhart. Reinhart added 10 digs on the night for a double-double to go along with a career-high seven service aces. Haase served up four aces of her own. Morgan Magers (Green Springs, Ohio / Old Fort) dished out a match-high 33 assists. Defensively, Heidelberg was led by Brittany Donelan’s (North Olmsted, Ohio / North Olmsted) 11 digs. Suzy Street (Grafton, Ohio / Midview) rounded out three with double digit digs with 10.
Heidelberg begins an 18-match road trip at the Ohio Northern University Invitational Sept. 4-5. While at Ohio Northern, the Berg will face three nationally-ranked foes.
